A variety of LocoRoco content was made available in PlayStation Home, based on the game for PlayStation Portable. The first of which was released on 18 February 2010.[1][2]

Spaces[]

MuiMui Ship[]

MuiMui Ship

The MuiMui Ship floating in the sea.

The MuiMui Ship was the main public space designed as a large boat covered in lush greenery, set sail amongst a variety of small islands. The ship had advertisements for LocoRoco-related merchandise and was populated by many LocoRoco (yellow characters) and MuiMui (black characters). There were also two playable mini-games, LocoReversi and Domingo Race, and binoculars at the top of the ship to view LocoIsland, as well as an inaccessible island far out into the distance.

LocoIsland[]

LocoIsland

A view of LocoIsland and its surroundings.

LocoIsland was the personal space attached to the MuiMui Ship. It was again populated by the LocoRoco and MuiMui, and featured the LocoReversi game. It also contained a jukebox, and players could add other features to the island by collecting Pickories to trade with the King MuiMui.

Up to twenty LocoRocos could live on the island by purchasing LocoRoco-themed items, such as clothing or furniture. Dancing near a LocoRoco would make them follow you. If the player managed to get all of them on the island to follow and group together in one spot, they would start singing, earning them a Pickory for each LocoRoco.

The interior of the house on LocoIsland.

Players would also recieve nuts on their island, one per daily visit. There were six varities of nut that could randomly spawn, each worth a different amount in Pickories:

  • Dried Nut (worth one Pickory, common)
  • Overripe Nut (worth five Pickories, common)
  • Juicy Nut (worth 20 Pickories, uncommon)
  • Ripe Nut (worth 50 Pickories, rare)
  • Funky Nut (worth 100 Pickories, very rare)

If the player had the garden upgrade, they could also grow and harvest MuiMui Fruit, each worth five Pickories. If watered, they would recieve two fruits for the week as opposed to just the one for not watering.

For every ten friends invited to the island, the player would get ten Pickories. As a guest bonus, players could talk to the MuiMui king to receive a MuiMui ornament. Players had to visit someone else's LocoIsland in order to unlock it.

Mini-games[]

LocoReversi

Avatars playing and spectating a game of LocoReversi.

There were multiple LocoReversi games around the MuiMui Ship and LocoIsland. The rules were identical to the standard Reversi (aka Othello) game, presented with a LocoRoco theme. The chips were either yellow or black LocoRocos. The game began with four characters in the center of the board: two yellow and two black. The players took turns, with yellow starting by placing a yellow character in any valid spot. To be valid, the spot must have caused a black character (at least one, but possibly more) to change to yellow. If a player had no valid position to move to, the other player was allowed to move again. To finish the game, all of the spaces on the board needed to be filled or, in rare cases, a player's color was completely removed from the board.

Apart from Reversi, the MuiMui Ship also featured an hourly Domingo Race betting game. Four Domingos and one MuiMui would race. It was not strictly random as the MuiMui, with 1-1 odds, would most often win. The more profitable the odds were, the less chance the Domingo would win. To bet, players would use their collected Pickories.

Pickories[]

LocoRoco clothing items

Themed clothing items, purchasable with Pickories.

Pickories were fly-like creatures used as currency within the LocoRoco spaces. There were multiple methods for collecting Pickories including:

  • Dancing for sad MuiMui
  • Attracting LocoRoco to shaking grass tufts
  • Dancing under hovering Pickory bugs
  • Betting (and winning) on the Domingo Race
  • Collecting and selling nuts on LocoIsland
  • Gathering all LocoRoco in a single group on LocoIsland

With the collected Pickories, players could buy items from the Pickory Exchange such as t-shirts, figurines and costumes. If the LocoIsland was owned, Pickories could also be exchanged with the MuiMui King for island upgrades.
